There are eggs in the nest. Can you take it out today?
Usually not, and we will not pretend otherwise. Active nests of most species are protected under federal and provincial law, which means we work to the timing the law allows rather than removing on demand. We will inspect, document what is there, tell you when the work can lawfully proceed, and book it in — and in the meantime we can often reduce the mess and the nuisance below the nest.
Can I just pull the nest out myself?
Beyond the legal side, there are two practical problems. Nests in vents are usually packed far further back than the part you can reach, so pulling the visible material out leaves the blockage in place. And nest debris carries droppings and mites, which is why the removal and the disinfection belong together.
Why do birds keep nesting in the same spot every year?
Because the opening is still there and it works. Sparrows and starlings return to a site that sheltered a successful brood, and a soffit gap or an unguarded vent reads to them as a cavity. Removal without proofing is the reason so many buildings run the same call every spring.
