Hoarding Cleanups

These calls are rarely about mess. They are usually about someone you care about, a situation that has been building for years, and a phone call that took a long time to make. Our crews work discreetly and without judgment — unmarked arrival, respectful handling of belongings, and a pace set by the people involved rather than by us.

How we handle it

  1. 01

    A private conversation first

We talk before we look — with the resident wherever possible, and with whoever is helping them. Nobody gets surprised on the day. We establish what matters to keep, who has authority to make decisions, and what the person living there is comfortable with, because a cleanup done over someone rather than with them tends not to hold.

  2. 02

    Walkthrough & plan

A quiet assessment of the property: access and safety, the pest situation, biohazard considerations, what needs sorting versus what needs removing, and how many days the work realistically takes. You get a plan in writing and a clear scope, with room-by-room sequencing so it does not all happen at once if that is too much.

  3. 03

    Sorting, removal & cleaning

The crew works room by room, sorting to the categories agreed rather than making those calls for themselves. Keepsakes, documents and valuables are set aside for the resident to review. Removal, deep cleaning and sanitation follow, using products registered with Health Canada, applied by licensed technicians where treatment is involved.

  4. 04

    Pest treatment & reset

Where there is an active infestation — and there usually is — we treat it properly once the space is clear enough to reach the harbourage, then neutralize the odours and scent trails that draw pests back. The aim is a home that is genuinely liveable again, not just emptier.

Where we work

Hoarding Cleanups across Calgary

We take hoarding cleanup work across Calgary — houses, condos, apartments and rental properties — often alongside family members, property managers or support workers who are coordinating the wider situation. The same crews and the same discretion cover Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane, Okotoks and Strathmore — the region Pro-Pest has served since 2013.

Common questions

Hoarding Cleanups — straight answers

Will the neighbours know?

Not from us. We arrive discreetly, keep the work contained, and stage removal so the property does not become a spectacle on the street. Privacy is something families raise on nearly every one of these calls, and it is built into how the crews work rather than being an extra we offer.

My parent does not want anything thrown out. What then?

Then nothing gets thrown out without agreement. Our crews sort rather than dispose, and decisions about belongings stay with the person whose belongings they are, or with whoever they have authorised. Cleanups that ignore that tend to end badly, both on the day and six months later, so we work at the pace the situation allows.

Is this safe for your crew and for the people living there?

It is assessed as such before anyone starts. We look at structural access, biohazards, sharps, spoiled food, animal waste and air quality, and we bring the right protection and containment for what is actually there. We are fully insured and WCB covered, and if something is outside what we should be handling we say so and tell you who should.

How long does it take?

It depends entirely on the property and on how the household wants to work — some jobs are a couple of days, some run over weeks in stages. We give you a realistic estimate after the walkthrough rather than a number over the phone, and we would rather revise it up front than halfway through.
