Fly Control

Flies are a signal, not just a nuisance. A persistent fly problem almost always means there is a breeding source nearby — a drain, a bin, organic build-up under equipment — and finding it is most of the job. In a food premises it is also an inspection risk.

How we handle it

  1. 01

    Identification

House flies, drain flies and fruit flies are three different problems with three different sources. Identifying which you have tells us where to look, and it is why generic fly spray so rarely fixes anything.

  2. 02

    Source location

We trace the breeding site — floor drains, the underside of equipment, waste storage, organic build-up in hard-to-reach voids. In commercial kitchens this is usually somewhere that looks clean at a glance.

  3. 03

    Treatment & elimination

Licensed treatment of the source and the harbourage, with drain treatment where the breeding site is organic build-up rather than open waste.

  4. 04

    Prevention

Practical changes to waste handling, drain maintenance and door screening that keep the problem from re-establishing, plus scheduled monitoring for commercial premises.

Common questions

Fly Control — straight answers

Why do the flies come back a few days after I clean?

Because cleaning removed the adults but not the breeding site. Drain flies in particular breed in the organic film inside a drain, which surface cleaning never reaches. Until that film is treated, a new generation emerges every few days.

We run a restaurant — can you work around service?

Yes. We service a large number of Calgary restaurants and commercial kitchens and schedule around trading hours, including outside service times. You get a documented record of the work for your food-safety file.

What are the tiny flies around my kitchen sink?

Usually drain flies or fruit flies. Drain flies are fuzzy, sit still on walls near the sink, and breed in drain film. Fruit flies hover, move fast, and breed in ripening produce or spilled liquid. The treatment for each is different, which is why identification comes first.

Do fly traps and zappers work?

They catch adults, which helps in a commercial setting as part of a monitoring programme. On their own they do nothing about the source, so the population simply keeps replacing what the trap removes.
