Spider Control

Spider work in Calgary is a housekeeping and exterior problem, not a health scare. The spiders that turn up in local homes, garages and window wells are nuisance web-builders, and we are not going to dress them up as something worse to sell a treatment. What actually reduces them is taking the webs and egg sacs down, treating the exterior where they hunt, and closing the gaps they follow their food through.

How we handle it

  1. 01

    Assessment

We look at where the webs concentrate and why, because spiders follow their food. Exterior lighting, shrubs planted tight against siding, firewood stacked on a wall and window wells full of leaf litter all create the insect pressure that keeps a corner rewebbing.

  2. 02

    De-webbing

Physical removal of webs and egg sacs from eaves, soffits, corners, window frames, decks and window wells. Taking the egg sacs down takes the next generation with them, and it is the step homeowners skip most often — which is why the same corner is full again a fortnight later.

  3. 03

    Exterior treatment

Licensed application to the bands where spiders shelter and hunt: the foundation line, eaves and soffits, window and door frames, deck framing and garage thresholds. Treating the exterior is what keeps them from coming inside; interior spraying on its own rarely changes much.

  4. 04

    Entry sealing & follow-up

Door sweeps, weep screens, window well conditions and utility penetrations get looked at and closed where it is worth doing, and we go through the lighting and landscaping changes that lower insect pressure. We check back to confirm the webs are not simply rebuilding. And our results are guaranteed.

Common questions

Spider Control — straight answers

Are the spiders in my house dangerous?

The spiders we find in Calgary homes are a nuisance rather than a medical threat, and we would rather say that plainly than trade on the fear. Most marks people attribute to a spider bite turn out to have another cause entirely. If you have a bite that is worsening or you feel unwell, that is a question for a doctor, not for a pest control company.

Why do the webs come back so quickly after I clear them?

Because the food is still there. A wall-mounted light pulls in insects all evening and a spider that finds a reliable food supply will rebuild in the same spot within days. Changing the exterior lighting to something that draws fewer insects, and treating the perimeter so the insect population drops, does more than sweeping the eaves ever will.

Will one treatment sort it for the whole year?

Usually not, and we will tell you that up front. Calgary gives you two pressure points — spring, when everything becomes active, and late summer into fall, when spiders move toward the building as the nights cool. Most properties do best with a treatment at each of those, rather than one visit in July and disappointment in September.

What can I do myself between visits?

Knock the webs down regularly with a broom, including under the deck and around the window wells, and clear the egg sacs rather than just the webbing. Move the woodpile off the house wall, trim shrubs back from the siding, and keep window wells clear of leaves. Swapping bright white exterior bulbs for warmer-toned ones reduces the insects, which reduces the spiders.
